Offensive Player of the Week

Alfred Morris (Florida Atlantic, So., RB)
Alfred Morris entered Saturday's Shula Bowl versus FIU second in the Sun Belt with an average just over 112 yards per game. The sophomore needed 145 yards to become the league leader, a goal set by the offensive line. Morris ran for 72 in the first half and just like all of Morris' yards they came after contact and by effort. The FIU Panthers pushed the Owls never allowing a leads that would provide an opportunity for FAU to run the ball for game control. Through the second half Morris continued to chip away at the total. Going into the last drive of the game for the Owls Morris had 124 yards. Following a penalty, FAU's first play of the drive was a pass. The second was a four-yard run by Morris, a nine yard rush followed. Morris added a yard to move the chains and then saw junior quarterback Jeff Van Camp tally a 10-yard run to the FIU 20. Morris finished the drive with a 20 yard run to the end zone to capture the rushing title with 158 yards in the final game of 2009 and, all on the final run of the game.  It was his second score of the night and built a much needed lead for FAU as FIU then mounted a 96 yard drive that pulled the Golden Panthers within a score. Morris, moved from fullback in the spring to running back and took Florida Atlantic by storm. His abilities changed the traditional Howard Schnellenberger passing attack into a team that thrived with the run. Morris became the all-time single season record holder for the Owls with 1,392 yards. He is just the second player in Schnellenberger's 50 years of coaching to rush for 1,000 yards. The sophomore averaged 116 on the season a mark the ranks him among the nation's top 20 back. His longest run of the season was 48 yards and he averaged 5.3 yards per carry.

Defensive Player of the Week

Alex Carrington (Arkansas State, Sr., DE)
Senior defensive end Alex Carrington tied the ASU record for sacks with four, posted a career-high five tackles for loss, tallied a season-high seven tackles and returned a fumble 27 yards with 3:49 left in the fourth quarter for the game-winning touchdown in Arkansas State's 24-20 victory over Western Kentucky.  Carrington's four sacks gave him nine total for the season, which ties the most this season and the eighth most all-time by an SBC player.  His four sacks also gave him 21.5 for his career, moving him into second place for the most in school history and into fourth place for the most in Sun Belt history.  His 5.0 tackles for loss were the most by an SBC player this season and gave him 14.5 for the season, the third most in the league.  The play before Carrington recovered and returned the fumble for the touchdown, he posted his third sack to set up a 3rd-and-16 for WKU.  Carrington posted his final sack on WKU's last possession to help preserve the victory for ASU.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Josh Arauco (Arkansas State, Sr., K)
Already the Sun Belt Conference's all-time leader in field goals made with 58, senior kicker Josh Arauco became the league's all-time leader in points by kicking during the final game of his career at Arkansas State.  During ASU's 24-20 win over Western Kentucky, Arauco kicked a 27-yard field goal and made all three of his extra-point attempts to finish the game with six points and give him the SBC record with 288 career points.  Arauco also completed his career as ASU's all-time leader in field goals made and points by kicking.
