MT is a remarkable 25-3 when Rowe notches 20 or more points. Elie and teammate Kortni Jones are also tallying double-figures with 13.9 and 13.0 points per game. Middle Tennessee has gradually increased its shooting percentage to 41 percent (407x995) this season, while shooting over 40 percent in the last four contests. Jones is pacing the Raider offense with 75 assists, while Shanice Cason has collected 43 steals in 16 games. Middle Tennessee returns home for a pivotal two-game homestand with UALR on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Louisiana on Saturday, Jan. 19.

North Texas Mean Green
North Texas picked up its fourth straight win with a 20-point victory over South Alabama. It’s the first four-game winning streak for the Mean Green since the 2007-08 season. It was also the fourth straight Sun Belt Conference win for the Mean Green, and it’s the first four-game league winning streak for North Texas since 2001-02. Laura McCoy notched a career-high 23 points in the win over UALR and in the process became just the fourth player in school history to hit 100 3-pointers for her career. McCoy, knocked down six in the win, which is tied for the second most in a single game, and now stands with 104 for her career. A win at FIU would also be the first five-game conference winning streak since 2001-02. True freshman Alexis Hyder and Loryn Goodwin are leading the Mean Green in scoring this season. The Mean Green is the only team in the Sun Belt Conference to be led in scoring by two true freshman. North Texas as a team is hitting 74.8 percent from the free throw line, which is on pace to set a new school record. Only twice has North Texas hit over 70 percent from the free throw in a single season and the school record is 73.5 percent, set in the 2001-02 season.

South Alabama Jaguars
The South Alabama women’s basketball team split its two Sun Belt Conference games this past week. USA began the week with a 53-43 road victory at Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. The Jaguars then struggled offensively on Saturday, falling 67-47 at West Division leader North Texas. USA has now been held to less than 50 points five times this season. They are 0-5 in those games. Versus the Ragin’ Cajuns, USA trailed by four with 14 minutes to go, but led by Mansa El, rattled off a 15-0 run to take the lead for good. El recorded nine of her season-high 20 points during the Jaguar run and was 6-of-13 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from the three-point line in the game. She had 14 of her points in the second half and tied a career-high with nine rebounds. Junior forward Ronneka Robertson also set a new career-best versus ULL as the Louisiana native pulled down a career-best 13 rebound. With the win, South Alabama improved to 33-10 in the all-time series versus Louisiana-Lafayette and 19-3 under head coach Rick Pietri. Allowing just 43 points to the Ragin’ Cajuns, the Lady Jags have now held four Sun Belt opponents and six this season below the 50-point mark. On Wednesday, the Jaguars forced five shot clock violations in the first half. The seven three-pointers hit by ULL were the most allowed at that time by USA to an opponent, eclipsing the previous mark of six by Florida Atlantic. ULL’s Sylvana was also the first individual to hit more than two treys in a game versus the Lady Jags. Versus North Texas, the Lady Jag offense struggled to find its shooting touch as they shot just 19.4 percent in the first half and finished shooting just 25.4 percent for the game. With the loss, USA falls to 7-14 in the all-time series to the Mean Green and 2-9 in the 11 meetings in Denton. The 20-point victory is the largest for North Texas in the series since the Mean Green’s 34-point (87-53) win in Denton back during the 2007-08 season. The 36-point second-half deficit to UNT was the largest for the Lady Jags this season and the 18-point halftime was the largest for USA at the intermission this season. The nine three pointers by North Texas were the most by a USA opponent this season. Coming into the week, the Lady Jags entered play leading both the Sun Belt Conference and the NCAA in three-point field-goal defense, but over the last two games, USA has allowed its two opponents to shoot 16-for-30 from the arc. Through the first 15 games, the Jaguars had allowed just 40 treys and held opponents to 21.4 percent three-point shooting (40-of-187).
