Sun Belt Conference Soccer Weekly Release

NEW ORLEANS – After leading their teams to a pair of wins over the weekend, Middle Tennessee’s Paige Goeglein was named Sun Belt Conference Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and Florida Atlantic’s Ashley Lantes earned SBC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Goeglein, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., earned her second SBC Offensive Player of the Week award this season after registering a hat trick in MT’s 3-1 victory over Troy. The senior followed up with an assist in Allison Stallard’s critical equalizing goal at the 72nd minute against South Alabama as the Blue Raiders tied a school-record eight consecutive wins.

The midfielder remains tops in the nation with eight game winning goals, a MT single season record. With her three goals on Friday, the Goeglein moved to fourth all-time at MT with 14 goals in a season, while moving to ninth in school history with 23 career goals. Goeglein is fifth in school history with 32 points this season, notching 14 goals and four assists in 16 matches.

Goeglein will look to keep the Blue Raiders in first-place in SBC play on Thursday when they travel to second-place North Texas for a huge undefeated showdown.

Lantes, from Clermont, Fla., posted a record-setting weekend in net as the Florida Atlantic picked up two key home victories. She broke the school record for career saves with six saves in Sunday’s overtime win over Louisiana-Lafayette. The senior broke Molly Keating’s program mark of 321 career saves from 2000-03. Lantes has now recorded 326 saves in her four-year career.

The goalkeeper made four saves in her second shutout of the season on Friday against ULM.  Both shutouts have come in SBC action. Lantes tallied a 91-save percentage and stopped 10 of the 11 shots on goal in the two matches.

Lantes currently ranks second in the league in saves per game (6.29), third in save percentage (.846) and fifth in shutouts (2) in SBC matches. She will look to keep the door shut this weekend as the Owls travel to UALR on Thursday and Arkansas State on Saturday.
