Sun Belt Conference Announces Seeds and Game Times for Baseball Championship

NEW ORLEANS – Following the conclusion of the baseball regular season Saturday evening, the Sun Belt Conference announced its seeds and game times for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship taking place May 21-24 in Lafayette, La.

 

The host institution, Louisiana-Lafayette, reserves the right to choose its first round game time.  The Cajuns chose to play at 7:30 on Wednesday night.

 

Tournament Seeds

No. 1 – Louisiana-Monroe (20-10, .667)

No. 2 – New Orleans (18-11, .621)

No. 3 – Troy (18-12, .600)

No. 4 – Florida Atlantic (15-12-1, .554)

No. 5 – Western Kentucky (16-14, .533)*

No. 6 – Louisiana-Lafayette (16-14, .533)*

No. 7 – South Alabama (15-15, .500)

No. 8 – Middle Tennessee (13-16, .448)

 

WKU and ULL both have 16-14 records, but WKU wins the tiebreaker having won 2 of 3 head-to-head games.

Saturday, May 24

* Game 13 will be necessary if the winner of Game 9 also wins Game 11.

* Game 14 will be necessary if the winner of Game 10 also wins Game 12.

2 p.m. – Championship Game

 

* If only one of the two early games is necessary on Saturday, the first game will be played at 10:00 a.m., and the Championship Game will start at 2 p.m.  A thirty minute rest period will be given should the first game end after 1:30 p.m. If both “if necessary games” are played, the first game will begin at 9 a.m. and the second game will start 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.  The championship game will then be played 30 minutes after the completion of the second game, but no earlier than 2 p.m.
