2009 All-Sun Belt Conference Soccer Teams Announced

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The top seeded teams in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Soccer Championship dominated the list of All-Sun Belt Conference Soccer honorees as 18 of the 22 award winners came from the top four seeds in this week's Sun Belt Conference Championship.  The release of the All-Sun Belt teams and the individual award winners came at the pre-tournament banquet Tuesday night.

WKU's Kellie Walker was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year by the conference coaches as the senior midfielder led WKU in points and assists and sits atop the conference leader board in assists and assists per game. A 2008 All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team selection, she was also named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week twice in 2009.

Walker was named to the 2009 All-Sun Belt Conference First Team as well along with three other Lady Toppers - Mallory Outerbridge, Rachel Friedman and Libby Stout. North Texas (Kendall Juett and Kelli Lunsford) and Denver (Kaitlin Bast and Mariah Johnston) had two players on the First Team. While UALR (Christina Veasley) Middle Tennessee (Shan Jones) and FIU (Katrina Rose) had one.

FIU's goalkeeper Kaitlyn Savage won the Freshman of the Year Award and was named to Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference.

FIU's Thomas Chestnutt helped lead the Golden Panthers to an impressive 9-1-1 conference record and helped FIU win the SBC regular season after finishing sixth last season. For his efforts, Chestnutt was named the league's coach of the year.  FIU will look for their first tournament championship since 2000 this week at the SBC tournament hosted by FAU.
