Five Football Standouts Receive Academic Honor

NEW ORLEANS - Five Sun Belt Conference football players were named to the 2009 Academic All-District Football team as announced by ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA on Thursday.

Louisiana-Lafayette placed two on the District 6 first team as both Phillip Nevels and Grant Flemming were listed.  Middle Tennessee running back Phillip Tanner was listed on the first team for District 4 and WKU's Mark Santoro was named to District 4's second team.  Arkansas State's Alex Carrington was also place on the District 4 team.

During the 2008-09 school year a record number of Sun Belt Conference student-athletes were honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Academic All-America.  Ten student-athletes were selected last season, topping the previous high of seven set during the 2005-06 school year.
