NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee senior Desmond Yates has been named this week's Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Blue Raiders to a 3-0 record last week, including two wins over rival WKU.

Yates, a forward from Somerville, Tenn., averaged 19.3 points per game in the three contests versus WKU and Louisiana-Monroe, while shooting 48 percent from the field. He connected on six-of-nine three-point tries and hit 14-of-17 free throws on the week.

Yates became the all-time leading score in Blue Raider men's basketball history after scoring 28 points against WKU in a nationally-televised contest on ESPN2 on Jan. 23. In that game against WKU, Yates needed only 22 points to pass former Blue Raider standout Robert Taylor.

Yates has scored 1,629 points so far this season.
