Jaguars Continue Sun Belt Winning Streak; Enter Four Major Polls
NEW ORLEANS - The South Alabama Jaguars moved up to No. 21 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll, and also made its debut in the Baseball America, USA Today/Coaches Poll and D1Baseball.com Top 25, which were all released on Monday.

USA (25-8, 15-0 SBC) is off to its best-ever start in Sun Belt Conference play at 15-0 after sweeping Arkansas State in a three-game series last weekend at Stanky Field. The Jaguars have swept all five conference series thus far, and have won 13 consecutive home games. This week the Jaguars travel to Boone, N.C. to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a three-game conference set.

Aside from the Jaguars entering the rankings this week, they also moved up to No. 13 in the NCAA RPI report released on Monday. USA is one of three Sun Belt teams in the top 75 and one of two in the top 25. UL Lafayette is rated at No. 23 in this weeks RPI and Troy is rated No. 72.

The Cajuns step out of conference play this weekend and will host non-conference and in-state opponent, Southeastern Louisiana. USA plays the Lions in midweek action.

One week after winning consecutive games in dramatic walk-off fashion to secure a series victory over Little Rock, Appalachian State was on the other side of back-to-back walk-off losses that completed a three-game sweep at Troy. The Troy Trojans have won six consecutive games following the sweep of the Mountaineers and have moved into fifth place in the league standings behind Little Rock.

Georgia State senior catcher Joey Roach hit four home runs in four games last week and was named the Community Coffee Student-Athlete of the Week. Roach now has nine homers on the season (second in the Sun Belt) and 23 for his career. He is hitting .357 with 30 RBI in 31 games. He is the Sun Belt's active leader in career hits (181) while ranking second in homers and RBI (116). Roach was 7-for-14 last week with eight runs batted.

UL Lafayette's Evan Guillory was named the Community Coffee Pitcher of the Week after posting the program’s first complete game, one-hit shutout since April 9, 2010, in a 4-0 win over Northwestern State last week. Guillory posted a season-high seven strikeouts in the contest facing one over the minimum. After giving up a single in the first inning, Guillory retired 25 of the next 26 batters that he faced including the last 15 hitters of the contest.

Catcher Joey Roach smashed four home runs in four games last week while hitting .500 with eight RBI. The senior from Holly Springs, N.C., began the week by hitting two homers and driving in three runs in the Panthers' 7-4 loss at Auburn with a two-run blast in the third inning and a solo shot in the eighth. In GSU's 7-5 win at Little Rock, he had a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and then a solo home run in the top of the ninth that proved to be a crucial insurance run. In Sunday's 9-7 loss, Roach had another RBI-single, and then in the top of the ninth, he brought the Panthers within two runs with a two-run bomb. Roach now has nine homers on the season (second in the Sun Belt) and 23 for his career. He is hitting .357 with 30 RBI in 31 games. He is the Sun Belt's active leader in career hits (181) while ranking second in homers and RBI (116).

  • Community Coffee is the official coffee of the Sun Belt Conference. They are sponsoring this season’s baseball student-athlete and pitcher of the week awards as well as the Most Outstanding Player award at the tournament.
  • Three Sun Belt teams are ranked in the NCAA RPI Top 75. South Alabama is the highest rated team at No. 13 followed by UL Lafayette at No. 23. Troy is rated No. 72 in the NCAA RPI. UL Monroe is rated No. 94.
